Hardwood Flooring
Homeowners and builders have depended on hardwood flooring for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Hardwood remains the industry standard long-lasting elegance and compliments all design styles beautifully.
Flooring Specialist offers two categories of high-quality hardwood flooring: Solid Wood and Engineered Wood. Both of these floorings have many benefits that can take the design of a room or space to the next level.
At our Warner Robins showroom, our customers have a vast selection of colors, grains and finishes to choose from, and a helpful, knowledgeable staff to help you decide the perfect hardwood for your flooring project, and all at a competitive price.
Types of Hardwood Flooring
Solid Wood Flooring
Solid hardwood flooring is usually the type that comes to mind first— cut planks that are a single, solid piece of wood without layers. This natural, solid hardwood is usually ¾ of an inch thick.
Flooring specialist provides the finest domestic and exotic hardwood varieties, including Red Oak and White Oak, American Cherry, Hickory, Maple, and Brazilian Cherry. These are all available in several widths.
Solid hardwoods are more susceptible to humidity and temperature changes. Therefore, we only install our solid woods above grade and over approved wooden subfloors that are nailed or stapled down. This ensures that solid woods are safe, secure, and long-lasting for home and business owners.
Floors with solid wood can generally be recoated and refinished several times. This allows for versatility if a home is being remodeled, or leeway if damage requires home renovation.
Engineered Wood Flooring
Engineered Wood is produced by laminating several layers of hardwood plies together to form a plank. These woods can be glued or stapled down. They can also be floated over a variety of subfloors including wood, dry concrete slabs and a few other types of existing flooring.
Engineered hardwood floors have cross–ply construction which reduces the expansion/contraction of planks caused by variations in humidity. As a result, engineered wood floors can be installed on any story or level of the home.
Our engineered woods are available in plank and longstrip format and an assortment of widths, depths and colors in both North American and exotic hardwoods.
Important Factors to Consider: Color, Character, and Construction
Color
The tints and tones of hardwood floors range from incredibly light to intensely dark and everything in between! For many interior designers, hardwood flooring type and style serves as a springboard for choosing other design elements in a home.
Generally, lighter hardwood floors work well in modern settings. Dark wood varieties tend to bring a more traditional aesthetic to a room.
Dark woods were (and still are) common in historic homes, but as technology evolved over time, lighter woods became more available and popular.
Color can also change. Solid hardwood floors have the ability to be recoated and refinished several times during their lifespan, which can allow for color transformations in the future.
Character
Grain variations occur naturally as woods are cut. The type and intensity of grains and variations can add texture, depth, and personality to a space.
Hardwood flooring with very little graining renders a sleek contemporary look, while moderate grain variations tend to be associated with more traditional spaces. The most dramatic grains suggest a rustic feeling in a home.
Construction
The two first choices you will need to make in the construction process are which basic type of flooring—solid wood or engineered wood—are right for your space.
Solid wood planks are comprised of a single piece of wood without layers. These natural planks make a handsome floor that can last a lifetime.
Engineered wood planks are a technological wonder made from several layers of wood with a core of plywood or high-density fiberboard. Engineered planks can be installed in spaces where solid wood will not withstand high levels of humidity.
Note that there are also differences in finishes to consider—
- gloss or luster level
- scraping degree
- scraping technique
- wire-brushing
